Online threats directed at students at Wartburg Central Middle School have been determined to be a hoax following a swift investigation by local and state law enforcement.

School officials and the sheriff’s office announced late Sunday evening that detectives, alongside the Tennessee Homeland Security office, worked diligently after learning of the threats earlier in the evening to trace their origin. Authorities confirmed that the individual responsible—a juvenile—is now in custody with formal charges pending.

Law enforcement and school administrators expressed confidence that the campus is secure, assuring parents and staff that students are safe.

Out of an abundance of caution due to the late notice and circumstances surrounding the incident, Sheriff Hamby has announced that extra deputies will be stationed at Central Middle School.
