GRAND JURY INTERIM REPORT REVEALS CONTINUED CONCERNS IN TBI INVESTIGATION AT MORGAN COUNTY CORRECTIONAL COMPLEX
An interim report released today by 9th Judicial District Attorney General Russell Johnson, and provided to us by Dudley Evans at BBB Communications, reveals that the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation’s probe into the Morgan County Correctional Complex continues to uncover significant systemic concerns following the death of a correctional officer earlier this year.

Ongoing Investigation: The Morgan County Grand Jury convened for its fourth consecutive session to review documents, video evidence, and witness testimony regarding the February death of Officer Dustin Pedigo, who was stabbed on duty by an inmate inside the facility.

Legislative Involvement: State Senators Ken Yager and Tom Hatcher appeared before the panel to hear firsthand about “numerous red flags” discovered during the inquiry.

Systemic Issues: Testimony highlighted ongoing concerns within the Tennessee Department of Correction (TDOC), specifically pointing to operational policies, procedures, and safety hazards such as the replacement of narrow jamb door locks.

Note: The inmate allegedly involved in the incident, Steed, is currently serving a 27-year sentence for aggravated assault, especially aggravated kidnapping, and attempted voluntary manslaughter. The investigation remains active and ongoing.
