ROANE COUNTY COMMISSION TO HOLD PUBLIC HEARING ON PROPOSED MORATORIUM FOR DATA AND CRYPTO CENTERS
The Roane County Commission is set to convene this coming Monday evening, October 12, at 6:00 p.m. at the courthouse in Kingston. A prominent public hearing will open the meeting to address a proposed temporary moratorium on applications for data centers, cryptocurrency mining operations, and battery energy storage facilities.
The measure aims to halt new approvals while the county formulates comprehensive planning, zoning, and building regulations. This proposal expands upon an earlier resolution passed in July, which initially placed a two-year moratorium exclusively on data centers.
Additional Agenda Highlights
Beyond the moratorium hearing, commissioners will tackle several key items under new business:
-
Committee Appointments: Reviewing and approving committee assignments for the upcoming fiscal year.
-
Budget Resolutions: Considering various measures related to the county budget.
-
School Zone Safety: Evaluating a proposed resolution to establish a formal speed zone on Highway 61 for the Mount Pisgah Christian Academy.
