FORMER INMATE SENTENCED TO ADDITIONAL TWO YEARS FOR SEXUAL BATTERY OF FEMALE CORRECTIONS OFFICER

A former Morgan County Correctional Complex (MCCX) inmate has been sentenced to an additional two years in prison after being convicted of sexually assaulting a female corrections officer.
Montarius Douglas, 24, was sentenced on Friday, Oct. 9, 2026, by Morgan County Criminal Court Judge Jeff Wicks. Judge Wicks ordered the two-year sentence to be served at 100% consecutively to the 15-year voluntary manslaughter sentence Douglas was already serving out of Gibson County. Douglas will also be required to register as a sex offender upon his release.
The conviction stems from an incident on Oct. 19, 2024, when Douglas grabbed and groped the corrections officer’s buttocks while she was performing routine duties in a common area. Security camera footage captured the assault, and Douglas admitted on the witness stand during his February 2026 jury trial that he committed the act without her consent, stating he let “his fleshly desires control his actions.”
During the sentencing hearing, the officer testified about the lasting impact of the assault on her daily work at MCCX. She stressed her desire to pursue criminal prosecution to stand up for fellow corrections officers across the Tennessee Department of Corrections (TDOC) and to hold inmates accountable through the court system rather than through TDOC’s administrative disciplinary process.
Assistant District Attorneys Anna Howard and Jonathan Edwards prosecuted the case. Douglas also faces separate pending charges, including three counts of contraband in a penal institution, following the discovery of three prison-made knives in his cell in December 2025.
