GRILL FIRE AT HARRIMAN SONIC DRIVE-IN EXTINGUISHED QUICKLY WITH NO DAMAGE OR INJURIES
By Dudley Evans –
A late-night grease fire at the Sonic Drive-In on North Roane Street was brought under control quickly by local firefighters last night, resulting in no structural damage or injuries.
According to Harriman Fire Chief Jon Johnson, emergency crews responded to the restaurant at approximately 11:45 p.m. after employees reported a fire on the grill. Workers initially attempted to put out the flames with a fire extinguisher but were unable to do so, leading them to call the fire department.
Harriman firefighters arrived and deployed specialized extinguishers, successfully controlling the fire within five minutes of arriving on the scene. Chief Johnson confirmed that neither the building nor any equipment sustained damage, and no injuries were reported among employees or first responders.
Mutual aid was initially requested from the Rockwood and Kingston fire departments as a precaution. However, because Harriman crews successfully contained the situation, the additional departments were called off and ultimately not needed.
