ALGOOD POLICE CHIEF ON ADMINISTRATIVE LEAVE AFTER “UNFLATTERING” RECORDINGS SURFACE

Algood Police Chief Gary Harris may have been given a reprieve recently from events going on surrounding misconduct in the city council, but last Friday, Harris was placed on administrative leave after a set of audio and video tapes surfaced that have cast him in a different light. Attorney Brett Knight says he received the tapes from a concerned citizen. A cell phone video reveals Harris driving around Cookeville with an open container of alcohol. Harris is on an audio recording allegedly talking how he could obtain prescriptions meds without a prescription. In a different audio recording, Harris appears to be having a phone conversation about women being employed on the police force in unflattering terms. Several of the audio recordings also referenced the legality of the recordings and how they might be explained. Algood Mayor Scott Bilbrey announced the city had placed Harris on leave early Friday morning pending a full investigation. Bilbrey said the city had been given a set of files containing audio and video files as well as text messages.
