AN ENTERTAINING EVENING AT GOOD SAMARITAN SOCIETY

Members of the adult choir of Saint Alphonsus Catholic Church in Crossville entertained residents of the Good Samaritan Society in Fairfield Glade Thursday evening, during a celebration of National Nursing Home Week. Nearly two dozen residents enjoyed the hour-long performance; some even sang along. The choir, under the direction of Marian Sullivan, presented a selection of American standard hits from the ’30s through the ’70s, including “Tea for Two,” “Don’t Sit Under the Apple Tree” and “Moon River,” to show tunes like “Singin’ in the Rain,” “Do-Re-Mi,” “Jeepers Creepers” and “Raindrops Keep Fallin’ On My Head.” Chorister Joe Rummel provided an informative introduction to each number. Three members also performed individually: Terry Mitchell (piano solo), Nancy Mitchell (vocal solo) and Lois Smalley (flute solo). Besides the familiar favorites, the choir sang a variety of patriotic songs to entertain the residents.
