ANTI-WIND FARM GROUP CONTINUES PROTEST

Monday night’s Cumberland County Commission meeting was short and officials also continued to hear arguments from residents about why a proposed wind farm in Crab Orchard would be bad on the health, economic and environmental fronts. The battle between the commission and a group known as the Opponents of the Crab Orchard Wind Turbines, has been raging on for the past few months. Monday night was no different as the group took to the street for their protests before the meeting. During public comments, group representative Craig Clark told the commission that Apex, the company over the plan, hired the University of Tennessee to produce a “slick” sales brochure “masquerading” as an economic impact report for the wind project. Former interim county commissioner Sandra Ducher accused the commission of being “blind to the evidence” presented and said that “decisions made by the commission are made to put a dollar bill in a local family’s pocket.” County Attorney Randel Boston stated that the county had just received a memo from the Tennessee Dept. of Health that confirmed that the wind farm would produce “no health concerns.” Amid a flurry of grunts and groans from the audience, Boston further stated that after several inquiries to the state about the matter, he had received nothing from the state in regards to the wind farm and that the issue was no longer under consideration for the county.
