ASSAULT CHARGES AGAINST CROSSVILLE DETECTIVE DISMISSED
Tyrel Scott Lorenz, a 38-year-old detective with the Crossville Police Department, saw a misdemeanor assault charge against him emphatically dismissed in Cumberland County Criminal Court on Tuesday.
The charge arose from an incident on June 3, 2024, where Lorenz was accused of using excessive force while arresting Anthony Jorge Corson, a suspect in a sexual assault case tied to a sex offender registry violation.
Following a TBI investigation and a grand jury indictment in August, the dismissal of the charge marked a significant turn for Lorenz, who had been suspended pending the case’s outcome.
Crossville Police Chief Jessie Brooks confirmed that, with the charge now dismissed, Lorenz would be reinstated and return to work on Monday after a recertification process.
The prosecution, led by District Attorney General Bryant Dunaway, faced challenges, including an expert witness ready to justify Lorenz’s actions and a lack of sympathy for Corson, who had pleaded guilty to incest and solicitation and was serving a 54-month sentence.
