BLOUNT COUNTY SHERIFF WARNS OF PHONE SCAM
The Blount County Sheriff’s Dept. is warning residents about a phone scam circulating through the area. Sheriff James Lee Berrong said callers will pose as members of the Sheriff’s Office and tell individuals they must send money, or else they face a possible arrest. The scammers tell individuals to send the funds by way of a Green Dot Visa card. Multiple reports on the scam surfaced Monday. Two victims allegedly sent money in using the cards. The Sheriff’s Office clarified that they would not call an individual to demand money, nor would deputies threaten an arrest via telephone.
