BREAKING NEWS – A Cumberland County man charged with reckless homicide entered a plea this morning in criminal court. Officers say 26-year-old Michael Quinn Dale of Crossville discharged a shotgun during an altercation with another man at an Old Mail Road home back in January 2017. According to testimony from a Tennessee Bureau of Investigation agent in court this morning, Dale went into a bedroom and grabbed a shotgun while being followed by a man after an argument. The man grabbed the barrel of the shotgun held by Dale to move it away from him when the firearm went off. The projectiles from the shotgun blast went through a wall and struck 21-year-old Kelsey Nicole Brady. Brady passed away from injuries sustained. In court this morning, Dale appeared in a white Tennessee Department of Corrections (TDOC) maximum security jumpsuit and entered a plea of “best interest” to the charge of reckless homicide. A best interest plea means that Dale did not admit guilt to any offense, but agrees that a guilty plea is in his best interest under the circumstances. Judge David Patterson informed Dale that he accepted the best interest plea as a guilty plea. Two other charges, both being aggravated assault, were dismissed. Dale will return to court on March 19, 2018 for scheduled sentencing. Reckless homicide is a Class D felony with a sentence range of 2 to 12 years in prison and a maximum fine of $5,000 in Tennessee. The sentence with Dale with no previous criminal record calls for a range of 2 to 4 years and how the sentence will be served will be determined by TDOC and the judge. Dale will receive credit for 410 days already served as of today at the upcoming sentencing.
