BREAKING NEWS – CROSSVILLE POLICE INCREASES PRESENCE AT CITY SCHOOLS

BREAKING NEWS – The Crossville Police Department, working with the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office and the Cumberland County Schools, have increased the presence of officers at Cumberland County schools because of a social media post referencing student walk-outs or possible threats of violence. Officers say unsubstantiated reports have been received, popping up on various social media platforms, throughout the morning. The posts have mentioned a planned student walk-out memorializing the Parkland Florida students. Indications are that the planned walk-outs have been cancelled. Some of the posts have indicated unverified threats of violence. In an effort to be proactive and to err on the side of caution, law enforcement officers plan to be especially careful rather than taking a risk of missing any violent activity. Additional officers will be stationed at, as well as be traveling between the schools throughout the day, until any possibility of threat has passed. Again, no credible evidence of imminent danger has been found, but authorities are investigating the social media posts and their sources, for possible prosecution. Any further information will be released as it is needed.
