CHARLES GLENN HENLEY, AGE 88

Charles Glenn Henley, age 88, of Harriman, passed away Thursday, September 13, 2018. He was a Roane County resident for over 60 years. Chuck was born February 20, 1930, in Tracy City, Tennessee. He graduated from Grundy County High School in 1949 where he was an outstanding quarterback, making honorable mention all-state in football. He most recently was elected to the Grundy County Sports Hall of Fame. He started college at the University of the South, Sewanee as member of the football squad. When the Korean Crisis broke out, he left his beloved Sewanee and joined the Marine Corp. After his service, he went to school to what was then TPI in Cookeville. There he met his wife of 60 years, Missy Wright. He worked for Union Carbide at all three plants and Idaho National Labs for 30 years. He became an avid golfer and eventually became a master club builder and repairer. He proudly owned and operated Henley Golf and Driving Range in Kingston, with wife, Missy, at his side.


Survivors include his daughters: Kim Kennedy and husband, Bruce, Kelly Boles and husband Jim; grandsons: Spencer and Nick Boles; brother: Roy Henley, of Kansas City, Kansas; sisters and brothers-in-law: Larellen Whitfield and husband Pat, Una Coffman and husband Don, Sherry Schuman and husband John; and a host of nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank Amedysis Home Health and Hospice for their care and compassion and Dr. Rodney McMillin, his physician and friend. They would also like to thank Ginger Schubert whom he loved to hear sing and Nancy Griffin and Angie Moore for caregiving these past few weeks. Also, a great big thanks to his buddies at Lakeside Golf Course for helping to bring joy of golf and companionship these past few years.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, September 16, 2018, 2 p.m., at Saint Andrews Episcopal Church with interment immediately following in Kingston Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends Saturday, September 15, 2018 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Kyker Funeral Home in Harriman.
