COUPLE CHARGED WITH SECOND-DEGREE MURDER IN DEATHS OF ROANE COUNTY BROTHERS

A Roane County couple was arrested late yesterday for second degree murder after two teenage brothers died of overdoses in Harriman. Authorities took 35-year-old Vincent William Buckholtz and 33-year-old Brittany Janee Buckholtz into custody. Both face the following:

2 counts of second-degree murder

2 counts of reckless endangerment

2 counts of possession of drug paraphernalia

5 counts of possession of weapon during the commission of a dangerous felony

5 counts of possession of weapon by unlawful user or addict of controlled substance

1 count of possession with intent to manufacture deliver or sell a Schedule VI drug

1 count of money laundering

The two allegedly sold a laced pill to 19-year-old Jared Crass and his 17-year-old brother Javen. Their bodies were found in a family home on Circle Lane.

According to the indictments, the second-degree murder counts state:

The Grand Jurors of the State of Tennessee, duly summoned, elected impaneled, sworn, and charged to inquire in and for the body of the County aforesaid, in the State aforesaid, upon their oath, present that VINCENT WILLIAM BUCKHOLTZ AND BRITTANY JADE BUCKHOLTZ, on or about April 19, 2021 to April 20, 2021. in the County and State aforesaid and before the finding of this Indictment, did kill Jared Crass and Javen Crass, by unlawful distribution of fentanyl or carfentanil, when those substances alone, or in combination with any substance scheduled as a controlled substance by the Tennessee Drug Control Act of 1989, compiled in chapter 17, part 4 of this title and in title 53, chapter 11, parts 3 and 4, including controlled substance analogs, were the proximate cause of the death of Jared Crass, in violation of T.C.A. 39-13-210 and against the peace and dignity of the State of Tennessee.

The reckless endangerment indictments states:

And these same Grand Jurors upon their same oath further present that VINCENT WILLIAM BUCKHOLTZ AND BRITTANY JADE BUCKHOLTZ, on or about April 21, 2021, in the County and State aforesaid and before the finding of this Indictment, did unlawfully and recklessly engage in conduct which placed or may have placed another person, to wit: Brantley Buckholtz and Meisha Buckholtz, in imminent danger of death or serious bodily injury, in violation of T.C.A. §39-13-103, and against the peace and dignity of the State of Tennessee.

Vincent and Brittany Buckholtz will be arraigned in Roane County Criminal Court June 28, 2021.
