COURT DATE MOVED IN CUMBERLAND COUNTY ATTEMPTED MURDER CASE
A Rockwood man charged with attempted murder was scheduled to appear in Cumberland County General Sessions Court this morning (Thursday, April 4, 2024) but was moved to May 9, 2024.
On March 11, 2024, at the request of 13th Judicial District Attorney General Bryant Dunaway, TBI agents joined deputies in responding to a report that 40-year-old Trish Shore was shot at a residence in the 2000 block of Smith Mountain Road in east Cumberland County. She was transported by helicopter to an area hospital, where she continues to be treated for her injuries. During the investigation, detectives identified 29-year-old Jonathan Wade Duncan of Alyssa Drive in Rockwood, an acquaintance of the victim, as the individual responsible for her shooting.
In the early morning hours of March 15, 2024, Duncan was arrested by the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Department’s S.W.A.T. team. Duncan was charged with attempted first-degree murder, being a felon in possession of a firearm, and possession of meth.
As of April 4, 2024, Duncan remains in the Cumberland County Jail with a bond of $1,035,000.
3B Media News obtained warrants for each charge to get additional details.
The attempted first-degree murder warrant states Trish Shore told officers on March 14 while in the hospital recovering that a male she knew as Johnboy (Johnathan Duncan) forced her to get on her knees inside a camper on Smith Mountain Road. Duncan allegedly shot Shore in the back of her head and shot her a second time. Duncan allegedly dragged her body outside and reportedly told her “he needed to burn her to get rid of her.”
The felon in possession of a weapon charge stems from previous convictions Duncan has barring him from having a firearm. The warrant states Shore told officers Duncan used a brown-colored pistol that was the size of a hand.
As for the possession of meth charge, officers allegedly found Duncan in possession of 10.56 grams of meth when he was arrested.
