COURT DATE RESET FOR MAN CONVICTED OF DEADLY SCHOOL BUS CRASH

The court date has been pushed back for the man convicted of killing six children in a school bus crash in Chattanooga. Officials say 25-year-old Johnthony Walker is charged with aggravated statutory rape. He was arrested last Thursday night in Davidson County and was scheduled to appear in court in Nashville this morning. Instead, the judge pushed back the appearance until Thursday, June 21, 2018. At the time of the alleged rape, Walker was out on bond, appealing his conviction in the 2016 school bus crash. Walker was waiting for the Tennessee Criminal Court of Appeals to rule on a motion by his attorney to have his sentence reduced. Walker has been on bond since October and was convicted in March. According to an affidavit, the victim’s parents called police after learning their 14-year-old daughter had been having sex with Walker while he was staying at their home. Walker reportedly admitted to police he had sex with the juvenile a few times, but claimed the relationship was consensual. Walker is being housed in the Hill Detention Center in Nashville under $350,000 bond.
