CREDIT CARD SKIMMERS DISCOVERED RECENTLY ON AREA GAS PUMPS

Internal skimming devices were recently discovered on gas pumps in Chattanooga & Hixson. These devices read & memorize vital account information making users vulnerable to ID theft. The internal skimming devices transmit data via Bluetooth technology.

Here are six tips to help you avoid becoming a victim:
1. If anti-tampering seal is broken contact store management immediately and don’t use the machine.
2. Use debit cards as credit. Since credit option doesn’t require a PIN the purchaser has more protection.
3. Cover the keys while entering your debit/credit password.
4. Monitor your account(s) daily online and report fraudulent transactions to your bank immediately.
5. Ask your financial institution to pair geolocation software with your card. This feature tracks location of both your card and phone.
6. Make payment inside with cashier
