CREWS PAVE SECTION OF NORTH MAIN STREET IN CROSSVILLE, THEN NEW ASHPALT ON PART OF ONE LANE REMOVED

It looked good for a few days.

Road crews paved a near three mile section of North Main Street in Crossville recently from Elmore Road north to I-40. Then for some reason the new asphalt was removed in a section of one lane.

So what went wrong?

Jennifer Flynn with the Tennessee Department of Transportation told 105.7 News today TDOT performs material inspection and testing on asphalt before, during, and after it is placed on the roadway. The asphalt placed on a portion of the fast lane of North Main Street was determined to not meet department specifications which could have detrimental effects on the longevity of the pavement. Considering the possible shortened life span of the roadway, the department required the contractor to remove the asphalt and replace it at no cost to TDOT. That is expected to be done soon.
