CROSSVILLE CITY COUNCIL MEMBERS “GO AT IT” AT THURSDAY MEETING

Thursday night’s Crossville City Council meeting was another sideshow with members exhibiting the same behavior of past meetings. Several items on the end of the agenda centered around interim City Manager Steve Hill and the morale of city employees being affected by the rumor-mill. Those items were sponsored by Council Member Pete Souza and every time that Souza would begin to talk about an item, Council Member Jesse Kerley called for a point-of-order for a motion to be made in order for discussion to begin, according to Robert’s Rules of Order. At one point, Souza called a point-of-order on Kerley stating that Kerley’s points were “dilatory”. Souza said that dilatory, by Robert’s Rules, meant harassment, when in fact, it means to “delay” or “gain time.” One of the agenda items addressed the fact that Hill took a 4-wheel-drive truck from Parks & Recreation Director Tammy French and replaced it with a sedan “just because he could,” according to Souza. In defense, Hill told the council that when he switched out the truck, “Ms. French had no problems with it.” Council Member Danny Wyatt said that he never received any calls from employees on the matter of low morale or rumors, which City Mayor James Mayberry echoed. Mayor Pro Tem Pamela Harris said that if there was such a problem with vehicles, or any other problems, then it should be handled between the city manager and the dept. head and not the city council. She then said that the whole thing was shameful. Souza was visibly upset over the proceedings and stated that on Monday, Sept. 12th, he would be filing 13 ethic’s violations with the state and that city employees were tired of being intimidated by city officials.
