CROSSVILLE FIRE DEPT. REQUESTING NEW WATERPROOF RADIO COMMUNICATORS

During yesterday’s Crossville City Council work session, members approved placing the purchase of radio communicators for the Crossville Fire Department on their regular meeting agenda next week. The fire department is requesting 40 new waterproof radios to replace the ones currently used at a cost of nearly $24,000. The money would be transferred from other areas of the fire department budget to cover the cost, at no additional expense to the city. Fire officials said the need for the radios is urgent based on a recent fire at Flowers Bakery where water got into a firefighter’s radio, disrupting communication. If approved by the city council, the radios currently used will go to the police department as backups once the waterproof ones arrive to the fire department.
