SCOTT MAPES FACES FELONY DRUG AND WEAPON CHARGES FOLLOWING INTERSTATE TRAFFIC STOP

A Crossville man is scheduled to appear in the Cumberland County General Sessions Court on Thursday, October 22, 2026, to face multiple felony charges following a February traffic stop on Interstate 40.
According to court documents and an affidavit filed by Tennessee Highway Patrol Trooper Ridge Long, Scott Edward Mapes was pulled over on February 20, 2026, near the 308-mile marker on eastbound Interstate 40 after the trooper observed a failure to maintain lane violation.
During the encounter, Trooper Long asked Mapes to exit the vehicle and observed items in his pockets. When questioned about a folded 20-dollar bill, Mapes reportedly admitted it contained cocaine.
The admission prompted a probable cause search of the vehicle, where authorities recovered 31 grams of cocaine and a loaded Beretta .380 handgun. Because Mapes is a convicted felon, his possession of a firearm is unlawful.
Mapes is represented by attorney Kevin Bryant and faces the following charges:
  • Schedule II Drugs: Cocaine (.5 grams or greater) (Case No. 18GS1-2026-CR-488)
  • Possession of a Handgun as a Convicted Felon (Case No. 18GS1-2026-CR-490)
  • Possession of a Firearm with Intent to Go Armed – Dangerous Felony (Case No. 18GS1-2026-CR-491)
He was initially booked into the Cumberland County Jail, with bond set at $10,000 for each of the three charges.
