CROSSVILLE POLICE OFFICER RELIEVED OF DUTY

Lt. Bart Riden with the Crossville Police Department has been relieved of his duties. City officials confirm the reasons for the dismissal of Riden include conduct unbecoming of a police officer and failure to follow department policies and procedures. Crossville Police Chief David Beaty says the TBI is conducting an investigation of Riden but emphasized the investigation is not connected to his dismissal for failure to follow policies and procedures. Beaty added the investigation could possibly be connected with conduct unbecoming. Beaty emphasized Riden was a good officer and regretted the situation that occurred prompting his dismissal. No further information was released. Riden was the handler of K-9 Officer Cain, who was killed in August 2017, during a chase with a suspect. In April of this year, Riden was assigned a new K-9 officer. Officials say that K-9 will now be assigned to another officer.
