CROSSVILLE POLICE RESPOND TO ASSAULT AT SPEEDWAY

On September 20, 2025, at approximately 5:53 PM, city police units were dispatched to Speedway on West Ave following a reported assault. Officer Chrystal Massey met with the victim and witness Kyle Macdonald, while Patrolman Ogle and Sergeant Seay contacted the primary aggressor, William Gillespie.
Video footage showed Gillespie attempting to forcibly remove the victim from the store by grappling their neck and torso. Macdonald intervened, separating the two and securing the victim inside the store. The victim, who had red marks but no injuries, reported that Gillespie became enraged over an issue with the air pump while inflating his bicycle tires and expressed intent to prosecute Gillespie for assault.
When officers attempted to arrest Gillespie, he resisted, requiring Ogle and Seay to restrain him by holding his arms and performing a leg sweep to subdue him. While being escorted to Patrolman Freeman’s patrol unit, Gillespie continued to resist, jumping and kicking the vehicle, causing a dent estimated at $500 in damages.
Due to his resistance, officers used Sergeant Seay’s patrol unit with a full prisoner compartment to transport Gillespie to the Cumberland County Justice Center, where he was charged with assault, resisting arrest, and vandalism.
