CUMBERLAND CO. OFFICERS RESPOND TO BURGLARIES AND THEFTS

Crossville police responded to a burglary in progress yesterday at a home on the 1100th block of Old Mail Road. A man pulled up to the residence to see an unknown individual run from the dwelling. A K9 officer attempted to track the scent of the intruder but lost it around a neighbor’s home.

This joins a long list of burglaries, thefts and two vehicle thefts in the past couple of days in Cumberland County.

Sheriff Casey Cox told 1057 News today that when it comes to vehicle thefts, drivers should make sure their vehicles are locked when not in use. Any valuables left inside either should be taken inside a home or locked in the trunk of a car. When it comes to home burglaries, Cox said homeowners should make sure all doors and windows are secured. Also, be sure to write down any serial numbers of anything of value and keep that in a safe place for law enforcement reference in case of theft.

It is also a good idea that if you are going to be away from home during nighttime hours to leave a light on inside the residence as well as the porch light on. This will give the appearance that someone is home and may deter a burglar.
