The Cumberland County School Board passed two important agenda items Thursday night. Earlier this week, the Board held a work session where they plotted out a 10-year Capital Outlay Plan to present to the county Budget Committee. Two drafts were submitted, with the Board approving Draft #2. That plan includes renovations and expansions at Crab Orchard Elementary and renovations at Cumberland County High School and Jet Stadium. The plan, which also includes the phasing out of portable classrooms, was approved unanimously. The other item that was approved was the 2018-19 School Calendar. Two different calendars were presented for the public’s approval; a traditional calendar and a balanced calendar, which would have students going to school year-round. The traditional calendar was approved by 54.9 percent of the public.
