FORMER ALGOOD POLICE CHIEF TO APPEAL FIRING

Former Algood Police Chief Gary Harris is seeking to appeal his recent removal from office for “conduct unbecoming a city employee.” Harris was fired from his position two weeks ago by City Administrator Keith Morrision after video and audio transcripts were presented showing Harris in a bad light. Allegations against Harris included driving while drinking alcohol when in uniform, discussion of discriminatory practices against female officers and others, and other inappropriate actions while in office. Such behavior could be considered as federal or state violations. District Attorney General Bryant Dunaway is continuing a review of the case. Harris’s hearing will be closed to the public and he will be represented by legal counsel at his own expense.
