Two resolutions proposed by Cumberland County Director of Schools Janet Graham were approved by the Board of Education Thursday. Ms. Graham asked for a resolution honoring principals in the month of October. She said those serving in that capacity deserved many thanks for their hard work and diligence and that special events are planned for the entire month in connection with the proclamation. The Board also approved a resolution making literacy a primary goal of the school system’s future. Ms. Graham said that her personal goal is to see a 90 percent proficiency in reading by those in the third grade within the next few years. She said that she would seek the same resolution be approved by city and county officials. Both resolutions were approved unanimously.
