CUMBERLAND COUNTY MAN CHARGED WITH TENNCARE FRAUD

A Cumberland County man is charged with TennCare fraud in connection with selling prescription drugs he obtained using TennCare benefits. The Office of Inspector General (OIG), with the assistance of the Crossville Police Department, today (Monday, October 2, 2017) announced the arrest of 54-year-old Danny L. Robbins of Crossville. He is charged with TennCare fraud for allegedly using TennCare benefits to obtain the painkiller Oxycodone, later selling a portion of the drugs to a confidential informant. “The opioid epidemic has been called the deadliest drug epidemic in history, and we are dedicated to stopping this activity in TennCare,” Inspector General Manny Tyndall said. “Local police and providers are committed to helping us find and prosecute people for this crime.” District Attorney General Bryant C. Dunaway is prosecuting. TennCare fraud is a Class D felony punishable by up to four years in prison per charge. The OIG, which is separate from TennCare, began full operation in February 2005 and has investigated cases leading to more than $3 million being repaid to TennCare, with a total estimated cost avoidance of more than $163.6 million for TennCare, according to latest figures. To date, 2,902 people have been charged with TennCare fraud.
