CUMBERLAND COUNTY RADIO LEGEND JIM HAMBY PASSES AWAY

A longtime voice of Cumberland County is now silent. For decades, through the 50’s, 60’s, 70’s and early 80’s, Jim Hamby woke people up in Crossville and Cumberland County with his “Morning on the Mountain” radio program on fledging radio station WAEW AM 1330 IN THE 50’S. In the late 60’s, Hamby moved his show, along with his mascot “Omar” the rooster to WCSV AM where he stayed until retiring from the airwaves in 1985. He then went on to pursue a lifelong love of creating jewelry. Funeral services for 80-year-old Jim Hamby, will be Sunday Dec. 12 at 2 PM at Hood Funeral Home with burial in Grassy Cove Cemetery. Visitation will be prior to the service at 12 Noon – 2 PM at Hood Funeral Home. Survivors: Wife: Mary Evelyn Hamby; Son: James “Jim” Hamby; Daughter: Elna Rose Hamby Sabine.
