CUMBERLAND COUNTY SCHOOL SYSTEM RELEASES COVID-19 DATA
The following report from the Cumberland County School System covers July 28, 2020, through August 27, 2020:
- 16 total reported positive student cases out of 5813 in-person students
- 12 total reported positive staff cases
- 67 total students quarantined because of being determined to have had close contact with another
Individual outside of the school environment who tested positive
- 30 total staff members quarantined because of being determined to have had close contact with another individual outside of the school environment who tested positive
All Cumberland County Schools classrooms and buses have seating charts. When a student is reported as COVID 19-positive, those charts are reviewed. Pursuant to Tennessee Department of Health guidelines, the names and contact information of students determined to have been in close contact with the positive student are provided to that agency.
The Tennessee Department of Health is in charge of contact tracing and determines the individuals who are notified. Parents must notify individual schools that their student has been instructed by the Health Department to quarantine. Cumberland County Schools continues to follow all Tennessee Department of Health guidelines in the interest of student and staff health and safety.

Cumberland County Schools defines “close contact”, consistent with Tennessee Department of Health guidelines: Being within 6 feet of a sick person with COVID-19 for about 10 minutes, or longer. Comparatively, the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) defines close contact as less than 6 feet of a sick person with COVID-19 for at least 15 minutes.
