Cumberland County Solid Waste Director Mike Harvel appeared in criminal court today for arraignment after being indicted by a grand jury. According to the indictment, Harvel is charged with two counts of sexual battery and one count each of assault and official misconduct. Court papers indicate that Harvel allegedly caused physical contact to a female in early February of this year resulting in the assault charge. The sexual battery charges stem from two separate incidents involving a female, one reportedly between early August 2017 and October 2017 and the other between early January 2018 and February 21, 2018. The final charge of official misconduct comes from an alleged incident between early June 2016 and February 21 of this month. Harvel is currently on administrative leave. In court today, a plea of not guilty was entered and the judge set a return court date of April 16, 2018.
