DEFENSIVE AFTER TRAFFIC STOP, WILLIAMS ARRESTED ON DRUG CHARGES

Thursday night, Crossville police conducted a routine traffic stop on Penny Lane. After securing permission to conduct a search, they asked the occupants to exit the vehicle. The driver, 55-year-old Diane Marie Williams of Crossville, brought her purse with her. When asked for permission to search her and her purse, Williams grew defensive, asking why they needed to search her purse for a traffic stop.

When Williams was asked if she had anything illegal on her or in the vehicle, the police report indicates she kept touching her chest and eventually said she had a knife. Police advised her a knife was not illegal.

During a subsequent search, police found multiple narcotics, including meth, marijuana and oxycodone, as well as digital scales, syringes and multiple baggies.

Williams was arrested and charged with simple possession of meth, simple possession of a Schedule II narcotic and simple possession of marijuana. She was not charged in connection for possession of the drug paraphernalia.
