COUNTERFEIT $100 UNKNOWINGLY DISPENSED TO CUSTOMER AT CREDIT UNION

Friday morning, Crossville police were called to Walmart for a report of a counterfeit $100 bill. A customer said she’d just left Upper Cumberland Federal Credit Union, where she’d cashed her payroll check and received a counterfeit hundred from the credit union.

Police met with the manager of the credit union, who reimbursed the customer.

In tracing the bill’s origin, it was determined it was received earlier that morning at the drive-through window and had been left in the cash drawer until being paid out to the woman about 45 minutes later.

The man who was said to have deposited the funds said he did not believe the fake bill came from his deposit; he said his deposit was proceeds from a sale a few days earlier in Sweetwater. The credit union withdrew $100 from his account for the counterfeit bill.
