DEPUTY INJURED ATTEMPTING TO DISABLE SUSPECT’S VEHICLE
Last Thursday, just before midnight, Morgan County sheriff’s deputies attempted to stop 29-year-old Lee Alexander Walker, Jr., in a vehicle headed south on Highway 27. When Walker refused to stop, deputies began a pursuit.
Walker pulled off the road into a graveled area, put his car in reverse, then back into drive. One of the deputies was outside his vehicle and when the driver put the car back into drive it appeared as if he were attempting to drive toward the deputy. The other deputy, still in his cruiser, struck Walker’s vehicle to keep it from striking the deputy.
Injured in the crash was 23-year-old Deputy Garren Cooper of Wartburg; the extent of his injuries is unknown.
Walker was charged with aggravated assault, evading arrest, possession of drug paraphernalia and driving on a revoked or suspended license. He is being held on $90,000 bond.
