Harriman City Manager Kevin Helms told 1057 News this afternoon that he has made a decision concerning the next man to lead the Harriman Police Department. Helms selected Derek Pacifico to be Harriman’s new Chief of Police out of a field of 11 applicants including Rockwood Police Chief Danny Wright and former Crossville Police Chief Rodney Shoap.

Pacifico was born and raised in Southern California and joined the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department at the young age of twenty, turning the legal police age of twenty-one during the academy. Graduating with his class in 1990, he was first assigned to the corrections bureau as are all new deputies. After a couple of years, he was promoted to field patrol where he worked for approximately six years in the High Desert region of the county. Methamphetamine labs and gang activity were on the rise and peaking, providing him with an incredible amount of patrol experience during these violent and dangerous times.

Pacifico retired as a Sergeant after 22-years of active duty. He was operating a training and consulting firm full time along with teaching criminal justice courses and writing his own set of Writer’s Guides to Law Enforcement, the first in the edition being the Writers’ Guide to Homicide.

If you are interested in meeting Mr. Pacifico, he will be at the Harriman Police Department around 5:30 pm Eastern Tuesday evening.  Pacifico will be introduced near the end of the Harriman City Council workshop meeting that was called to interview candidates for the Harriman City Judge and Finance Officer positions.
