DETAILS ON TUESDAY’S SEVERE WEATHER; EF1 AND EF0 TORNADOS CONFIRMED

On Tuesday, May 20, 2025, multiple tornadoes struck parts of Tennessee, with significant impacts in Cumberland and Roane Counties, as confirmed by the National Weather Service (NWS).
In Cumberland County, an EF-1 tornado with maximum wind speeds of 105 mph touched down near Melvine at 7:29 p.m., traveling just under five miles with a maximum width of 150 yards. It caused minor structural damage to homes, substantial timber damage, and affected two homes’ roofs in the Big Lick area.
The tornado lifted near Rhea Road and Old State Highway 28, also damaging trees and power lines. Residents reported debris and tree limbs scattered, with some structural damage like wooden boards piercing roofs. No injuries were reported, but Memorial Day weekend events were canceled due to cleanup needs.
In Roane County, another EF-1 tornado with 100 mph winds and a 100-yard width traveled 0.45 miles along Old Harriman Highway, causing similar tree and minor structural damage.
Additionally, two EF-0 tornadoes struck Clarksville in Montgomery County. One in North Clarksville, starting at 5:08 p.m., had a 9.41-mile path, 100 yards wide, with 75 mph winds, causing minor tree damage. The second in South Clarksville, starting at 5:25 p.m., spanned 3.21 miles, 200 yards wide, with 85 mph winds, felling trees.
These events followed a deadly EF-4 tornado in Kentucky days earlier, which killed 19 people, including 17 in Laurel County.
