DRIVER CHARGED AFTER STRIKING SCHOOL BUS IN CUMBERLAND COUNTY
The Tennessee Highway Patrol and medics responded yesterday morning around 7:30 to a school bus accident.
The report states a 2023 Ford Maverick driven by 49-year-old Michael B. Cordell of Pennsylvania was traveling north on Highway 127 North near Miller Road when he crossed the center line and struck the left rear wheel of an oncoming school bus operated by 72-year-old Shirlie C. Baldwin.
After the collision, Cordell’s vehicle ran off the left side of the roadway and came to rest in the construction zone.
The school bus came to a stop off the right side of the roadway in the construction zone.
Cordell was injured in the crash. Baldwin was not hurt.
Cordell was charged with DUI and failure to exercise due care.
The report did not indicate any students on board at the time of the accident.
