FIREFIGHTERS IN CUMBERLAND COUNTY RESPOND TO HOME BLAZES AT SAME TIME

Two house fires at the same time kept firefighters in Cumberland County busy this morning.

The Crossville Fire Department were called to an abandoned home at 1091 East First Street around 3:30 a.m. They arrived to see the structure fully involved and determined it was unsafe to enter to battle the flames. They took up a defensive position to contain it to just the building and prevent it from spreading. The fire destroyed electric wires and fiber optic cables running over the dwelling causing service disruptions to residents along East First Street from the scene eastward to at least Peavine Road. A cause is under investigation. East First Street at the scene was closed for several hours this morning while crews were on scene. Officials suspect homeless individuals were living there at the time of the incident. This makes the 3rd abandoned structure to be destroyed in this nature in recent months in the city.

At nearly the same time, Cumberland County firefighters responded to a residential blaze at 155 Wildwood Lane. A smoke alarm went off warning the occupants of the danger. They made it out of the home without injury. A cause is being determined.
