FIREFIGHTERS RESPOND TO CHIMNEY FIRE AT WHITESTONE INN

A fire call came in around 3:15 Tuesday afternoon at the Whitestone Country Inn located on Paint Rock Road in South Roane County. According to Fire Chief Mike Curtis with the South Roane County Fire Department, he was first on the scene, arriving around 3:30, and noticed heavy black smoke and flames coming from the chimney area of the three-story structure.

Other units arrived on the scene to assist, including the EOC and other South members, to begin an attack. A ladder was used to gain access to the top of the tall 3-story structure, and after beginning an attack the fire was under control within an hour according to the chief.

As you can see in the photo the fire was noted to be only around the chimney area but Chief Curtis did state that some water damage could be noted in the ceiling of the third floor near the chimney area. But all other portions of the building were without any damage and no one inside was injured, nor were any firefighters injured as well.

Chief Curtis wishes to thank those who assisted and helped in getting the fire under control quickly including EOC, East Roane County, EMS, Sheriff’s Office deputies, and Volunteer Energy Cooperative. We appreciate the photos also that Chief Curtis sent to us from the fire scene there yesterday afternoon.
