FIVE DUI STORIES OVER THE PAST WEEK
On November 30th at approximately 7:15 p.m., Crossville police units were dispatched to Paradise Mountain RV Park for a subject who was intoxicated and attempting to get into a vehicle.
Upon arriving Sergeant Crystal Massey observed Thomas Marion holding an object into a woman’s face and yelling loudly. Sergeant Massey said in her report that Marion was being aggressive toward the female and holding a phone in her face and filming her after taking the keys for the vehicle and RV.
Marion was described as having a strong alcoholic odor about him while being unsteady on his feet with slurred speech.
Sergeant Massey says in her report that she believes that had police not intervened the situation could have escalated into domestic violence due to his intoxication level and aggressive behavior.
Marion was transported to the Cumberland County Justice Center and charged with public intoxication.
On November 30th around 2:24 a.m. patrol officer Tristan Wright was patrolling on Elmore Road when he noticed a tan SUV in the parking lot of Vapors Choice that was running with the headlights on. The officer pulled into the parking lot and approached the vehicle where they then came into contact with Keith Roberts in the driver’s seat who had an odor of alcohol coming from his person.
Roberts was asked to perform field sobriety tests and admitted to having one or two beers earlier that day. Roberts would fail some of the field sobriety tests and was placed under arrest and transported to the Cumberland County Justice Center where he was charged with driving under the influence.
On November 26th at around 7:19 p.m., Patrol Officer McNeal called in a possible DUI and followed the vehicle to Myrtle Avenue. Officer Tristan Wright was already in the area and saw the vehicle.
The vehicle attempted to negotiate a curve to the right and then crossed the center line into the oncoming traffic side. Officer Wright initiated lights to conduct a traffic stop at the intersection of 4th and Yvonne.
The driver was identified as Doyle Houston and had an alcoholic odor coming off of him. Houston was asked if he had anything to drink to which he said he had won 25 oz Bud Ice about 3 hours prior. Sergeant Crystal Massey noticed a beer in the vehicle.
Houston was asked to step out of the vehicle and perform sobriety tests where he failed the eye test, failed the walk and turn test, and failed the one-leg stand test.
Houston was arrested for driving under the influence and transported to Cumberland County Justice Center.
On Monday, Crossville Police units were dispatched to the area of West Avenue in response to a white Ford Escape driving on the wrong side of the road while drinking a beverage and then driving into the CVS parking lot.
Upon arriving, Officer Jacob Zimmerman made contact with the vehicle in the car wash behind CVS with the vehicle still running. The driver was identified as Daniel Schultz. After rolling his window down, Officer Zimmerman reports smelling the odor of an intoxicating beverage, with Schultz himself having a flushed face.
Schultz was asked to step out of the vehicle and was described as being very unsteady on his feet, not obeying the officer’s commands. A bottle of Yukon Jack whiskey that was 3/4 full was spotted in his passenger seat.
Schultz would fail field sobriety tests and was transported to the Cumberland County Justice Center where a search warrant was granted for his blood. After being transported to Cumberland Medical Center for a blood draw, he was then transported back to intake and arrested for driving under the influence.
On Monday, at around 7:00 p.m., Officer Amy Sherill was dispatched to Dollar General Market on Highway 70 East about an intoxicated woman. Dispatch said the woman was sitting in a silver Cadillac in the parking lot and appeared to have vomit on her.
Upon arriving, Officer Sherill observed the vehicle parked in front of the Dollar General and still running. The woman identified herself as Judith Carlson, and upon being questioned about the whitish milky substance smeared around her face and hands she told the officer that it was ice cream.
The officer asked her questions about her welfare, however, Carlson became agitated and gave evasive answers saying she just wanted to drive home. She would be asked to step out of the vehicle for field sobriety tests, however, she would fail these tests.
Carlson was placed into custody after being deemed a danger to herself and the public with her intent to drive home. Carlson was transported to the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office without incident and a plastic tooter straw with residue was located in her pocket.
When asked what substance was inside the straw, she said that it wasn’t hers but that it did appear to be meth.
Carlson was charged with public intoxication.
