FLOODING, WIND DAMAGE REPORTED IN ROANE COUNTY FROM WEEKEND STORMS

Heavy rain Sunday morning caused minor flooding and then high winds exceeding 40 miles per hour rolled through Roane County, causing electrical companies in the county and outside as well to have to deal with downed power lines Some areas in Cumberland, Anderson and Roane counties were without power as crews went out to repair downed lines. Locally no major power outages were reported.

While Sunday afternoon’s pop-up thunderstorms seemed to skirt our area by and large, there were reports of some damage. In Oak Ridge, city officials said the storms that moved through around 4:15 pm with heavy rain and strong winds led to several calls for assistance and widespread power outages.

Emergency crews responded to several reports of storm damage, including a roof being partially torn off a building on Warehouse Road. There were also several calls about trees on buildings and homes, as well as across some roadways.

In a Facebook post Sunday evening, the city said one woman struck by a falling tree at her Nesper Road home had to be transported to an area hospital with what were called “serious injuries.” No other details were immediately available. Crews had much of the debris from Sunday’s storms cleared by late that night, and power was restored in relatively short order, as well.
