FORMER COLLEGE FOOTBALL PLAYER ARRESTED AFTER HIGH SPEED CHASE

A Cumberland County deputy observed 29-year-old Marcus Jameal Edwards of Alabama get into a vehicle Wednesday on Peavine Road at I-40. The officer knew Edwards from when he was with the Cookeville Police Department and had knowledge the suspect was wanted for violation of probation. He attempted to pull over Edwards and a pursuit started heading up to Fairfield Glade at speeds of 55 miles per hour then came back down Peavine Road towards Crossville reaching up to 130 miles per hour. Spike strips were deployed resulting in Edwards stopping on the west bound on ramp for the interstate. He was charged with evading arrest.

Edwards is a former college football player for Tennessee Tech back in 2010.

Court records indicate Edwards was arrested in 2016 in Putnam County after going into a woman’s home and smashing her face against a bathtub.
