FORMER CUMBERLAND DEPUTY INDICTED ON ASSAULT CHARGES

The Crossville Chronicle reports that Danny Ray Stone, a 57-year-old former deputy with the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office, was indicted on Tuesday by a grand jury on charges of assault and official oppression following an incident on March 7 involving a 14-year-old male.
The juvenile, is alleged to have been disruptive during a court hearing and was taken to detention, was allegedly subjected to unlawful mistreatment and caused to fear imminent bodily injury by Stone. After the allegations surfaced, Sheriff Casey Cox placed Stone on administrative leave, requested an independent TBI investigation, and noted that Stone, a long-serving deputy who worked in patrol and courtroom security, resigned shortly after.
Stone voluntarily surrendered at the Justice Center, was processed, and released on bond. The case, prosecuted by D. Michael Donavan, lists several witnesses, including TBI Agent Jacob Duke and various sheriff’s office and police personnel.
Stone is scheduled for arraignment on July 8.
