FORMER TITAN RUNNING BACK DeMARCO MURRAY ANNOUNCES HIS RETIREMENT
DeMarco Murray is hanging up his cleats. The 2014 Offensive Player of the Year announced his retirement from the gridiron yesterday, a scant four months after being let go from the Tennessee Titans organization. Having run for 659 yards and six touchdowns last season, he was set to earn $6.25 million this year when the Titans released him. A knee injury late last season forced Murray to miss the Titans’ final regular-season matchup as well as two playoff games.
“I’ve always heard the saying, ‘when you know, you know,’ and one day that day will come… and for me it was the last year or two,” Murray said. “I just woke up a couple weeks ago and it started to … trigger and it got deeper, so this morning I decided to call it a career.”
The Titans acquired Murray from the Eagles in a 2016 trade; he’d spent one year with Philadelphia after four seasons with the Cowboys. He’d been with Dallas during his award-winning 2014 season, in which he took offensive player of the year honors as well as garnering the NFL rushing title.
“I’m very blessed to have had the coaching staff and the players and teammates that I’ve been fortunate to play with the last seven years of my career,” Murray reflected. “The fans have been great. I had a lot of great games and a lot of great teammates. It’s bittersweet, but I think for me it’s the right timing for myself and my family, moving forward.”
