FORMER UFC CHAMP MATT HUGHES INVOLVED IN TRAIN CRASH, AIRLIFTED TO HOSPITAL

Former UFC welterweight champ Matt Hughes suffered head trauma and is seriously injured after his truck collided with a moving train on Friday, according to Illinois State Police.

Montgomery County Sheriff’s office confirmed the incident took place in Raymond, Illinois, not far from Hughes’ home in Hillsboro. UFC president Dana White said to ESPN that his family is on its way to the medical center.

“Apparently he has head trauma,” White said. “His family is traveling to him now.”

According to the police report, the truck crossed the tracks “directly in front of a train and the train struck the passenger side of the truck.”

Hughes is considered one of the best UFC fighters ever, holding the 170-pound title twice and defending his title seven times. Hughes (45-9) is now 43-years old and retired from fighting in 2011.
