HARRIMAN POLICE RESPOND TO 13-YEAR-OLD LOCKED IN VEHICLE

Friday, Harriman police responded to a child locked in a vehicle that was parked at the Dollar General Market on Ruritan Road. Sergeant Guge, Officer Vitatoe and Officer Champ arrived just moments after receiving the call and found a 13-year-old male inside a white SUV. The officers immediately noticed the young boy was fatigued and took immediate actions. Sergeant Guge broke out the passenger window and the young boy was freed from the vehicle. After an investigation took place, officers found out that the boy was changing clothes and planned to meet his mother inside the store after. While he was changing, the doors automatically locked causing him to be stuck in the vehicle. He was checked and cleared by medical personnel.

Police remind drivers to take that extra second to check their vehicles that have children and pets in them, after getting out. During this time of the year, the inside of a vehicle can reach upwards of 130+ degrees without proper air conditioning.

If you see a child or pet inside of an unattended vehicle, please call 911 immediately. Please record the tag number of the vehicle in case officers request it for an investigation.
