INTOXICATED MAN ARRESTED AFTER MAKING BOMB THREATS TO 911 FOR A RIDE TO WALGREENS

A local man is behind bars after allegedly calling 911 to demand a ride to a pharmacy, making bomb threats, and scattering his belongings across a convenience store parking lot late Tuesday night.

According to Crossville Police Department incident reports, Officer Amy Sherrill was dispatched to the Miller Mart on Miller Avenue at approximately 11:24 p.m. on June 30, 2026. Dispatchers warned officers that the caller, identified as Edward Haston, appeared heavily intoxicated and was rambling on the phone.

Initially, Haston told dispatchers he simply needed a ride to Walgreens. However, the call took a dangerous turn when he reportedly stated he wanted to “blow bridges up with Tannerite” and demanded to speak with the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (TBI).

Upon arriving at the scene, Officer Sherrill discovered Haston sitting on a walker surrounded by his personal property and trash scattered across the ground. An open container of “Beat Box,” an alcoholic beverage, was found nearby.

Haston admitted to officers that he had been drinking and intended to consume more, adding that Miller Mart employees had refused to sell him alcohol because of his visible intoxication. He claimed he had been released from a hospital just an hour prior to calling 911 and insisted he only called emergency services to get a ride to buy flu medication.

Police attempted to contact Haston’s family and friends to find him a safe place to stay, but were unsuccessful. While officers were actively trying to assist him, Haston threatened to call 911 again.

Authorities determined that Haston was a danger to himself and others due to his severe level of confusion, physical inability to walk safely unassisted, and his misuse of the emergency line.

Haston was placed into custody and transported to the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office by Support Patrol Officer Gage Gunnels. Officers collected his belongings, including his walker and walking sticks, and logged them into the jail’s intake.

Haston has been officially charged with Public Intoxication.
