ROANE COUNTY DEPUTY AARON TUGGLE SERIOUSLY INJURED IN TWO-VEHICLE HIGHWAY 58 CRASH

A Roane County Sheriff’s Office deputy is recovering after being seriously injured in a two-vehicle collision on Highway 58 near the Meigs County line on Friday morning.

The deputy, identified as Aaron Tuggle, was transporting a prisoner shortly before noon when the crash occurred. Emergency responders from multiple agencies rushed to the scene, where rescue crews had to extricate Deputy Tuggle from his patrol vehicle. He was subsequently airlifted to the University of Tennessee (UT) Medical Center.

Roane County Sheriff-Elect Tim Phillips confirmed the deputy’s involvement in the wreck. In a positive update, authorities reported that Deputy Tuggle’s condition is improving and he may soon be released from the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).

Two other individuals were hospitalized following the collision:

  • The Prisoner: The individual being transported in the patrol unit was taken by ambulance to UT Medical Center. Their current condition has not been disclosed.

  • Second Driver: A 74-year-old male, who was operating the second vehicle involved, was transported by ambulance to Tennova Turkey Creek Medical Center. The extent of his injuries remains unknown.

Traffic Impact & Investigation: The crash temporarily shut down parts of Highway 58 while emergency crews cleared the debris and treated the victims. The Tennessee Highway Patrol has taken over the scene and is currently investigating the cause of the accident.
