JOHN THOMAS COLEY JR. SET FOR COURT APPEARANCE NEXT WEEK ON RAPE INDICTMENT
Former Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office patrol sergeant and SWAT officer John Thomas Coley Jr., 43, is scheduled to appear in the Cumberland County Circuit Court – Criminal Court on Monday, November 10, 2026, for an appearance to plea hearing.
Coley faces two counts of rape involving a vulnerable adult, stemming from an off-duty incident investigated by the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (TBI) at the request of 13th Judicial District Attorney General Bryant Dunaway. A Cumberland County grand jury indicted Coley in February 2026 following the investigation, which began after allegations surfaced in late 2025.
Coley was terminated from the sheriff’s office in late 2025 for ethics violations and conduct unbecoming of an officer. He is currently being held on a $1,000,000 bond, represented by the Public Defender’s Office.
