JURY BEGINS DELIBERATIONS IN PILOT/FLYING J FUEL REBATE SCAM TRIAL
The jury has begun its deliberations in the Pilot/Flying J rebate fraud trial that has stretched on for some three months. Ex-Pilot/Flying J president Mark Hazelwood, ex-Pilot vice president Scott Wombold, and ex-Pilot account representatives Heather Jones and Karen Mann are accused of knowingly and voluntarily joining a conspiracy that shorted trucking customers promised fuel rebates. Jurors will have to sift through nearly 20 days of testimony to decide whether or not the four defendants were oblivious to the rebate scam or if they were major players. The scheme netted the company $56 million and all four saw their salaries rise during that time. Defense attorneys say their clients either did not realize the scam was happening or they did not know that what was happening was wrong.
